We have had a much more difficult time than normal choosing pictures for our feature on Elena Dementieva - or rather choosing which pictures NOT to include - so you're getting more than your normal ration. But it has been a pleasant experience looking through them all....! Our pictures were taken in April 2004 at Amelia Island, Florida where Elena - ranked 5 in the World  - was competing in the Bausch & Lomb Championships. Elena was born October 15, 1981 in Moscow . Father Viatcheslav is an engineer and Mother Vera is a teacher but usually accompanies Elena on the WTA tour. Elena has been playing tennis since she was 7 and turned pro in 1998. Elena has won 3 singles titles - her first being at this event in 2003. At almost 6' tall Elena is incredibly imposing both on and off the court. She loves animals and her intellectual pursuits match her athletic ability - she likes both chess and ski-ing Oh, and did we also mention talented, beautiful and just a really nice person....!
